ShakyJake - Interview with Mark

Here's an interview with Mark of ShakyJake.  Thank you Mark!

Question:
"Names of the band members and the instruments they play?"

Answer:
"George Hamilton: Drums and vocals, also comic relief.  Bill Wright: Lead and Rhythm guitars, vocals and foreign language.  Wurtzy: Bass and vocals and up, up, up, up, down, down, down, down, middle, middle, middle, middle - DRINK!  Mark Allen: Vocals, Rhythm guitar and often found singing in the rain."

Question:
"How did the band get its name?"

Answer:
"Years ago there were airplane engines made by a company called Jacobson; these engines were so powerful that when pilots flew airplanes that had them, the planes often shook violently.  As the reputation of these engines grew people would tease the pilots of the planes by saying, "I see you have the ShakyJake today!"

Question:
"How long have these people made up the band?"

Answer:
"2 1/2 years."

Question:
"How long has the band been in existence (if different)?

Answer:
"4 years."

Question:
"Album(s) the band has released and the year(s) they were released?"

Answer:
"The Greenhouse was released in November 2000.  And our new CD 'Urban Decay' was released in May 2002."

Question:
"First single released?"

Answer:
"'While Katie Sleeps' and 'Dreaming of' off the CD Green House.  And 'Shame On Me' from 'Urban Decay'."

Question:
"Where can people find out more about your band?"

Answer:
"Our website, www.shakyjake.com, offers up a lot of information about ShakyJake.  But the best place to find out about what shakyjake is all about is to see our show.  We try and get to know the people who come out to the shows, and really make it a party.  Starting in November we will be playing every Thursday at the Dugout in Mahtomedi/White Bear Lake.  (See the web site for directions.)  We will be trying different themes and it will provide an excellent format for newcomers to get to know us."

Question:
"Where's your favorite place to perform and why?"

Answer:
"Bogart's in Apple Valley.  We tend to fill up the room and they have an excellent stage, sound system and light show.  We have had CD release parties there for both our CD's.  Both were standing room only rock til you drop parties."

Question:
"What's your favorite thing about entertaining?"

Answer:
"There is no substitute for playing live.  It's the interaction and spontaneous magic that happens with the crowd, when you're playing live, it's electric!  It's a great feeling when we are playing our own songs and the crowd is singing along - it makes you feel good!"

Question:
"What's your least favorite thing about entertaining?"

Answer:
"Last call and closing time."

Question:
"What's your most memorable moment on stage?"

Answer:
"The first time we were playing 'Shame on Me' from Urban Decay at our CD release party.  And the crowd already knew the words to the song.  They were all singing along - it was very cool.  We are very proud of the Urban Decay CD because all of the songs were written together as a band, with the exception of 7 to 11, which I wrote.  But it is definitely a ShakyJake song now."

Question:
"What's your most memorable moment off stage, music related?"

Answer:
"All of us getting butt naked and singing 'This little light of mine'.  Lions and tigers and bears - Oh my!"

Question:
"Is there anything the fans don't know about your band that you think they should?"

Answer:
"Boxers and Briefs.  And we all believe that you can have just as good a time at a shakyjake show if you don't drink alcohol; but why risk it."

Question:
"Is there anything that you want to say to your fans?"

Answer:
"Thanks for all your support and for making it a party.  What we do is totally dependent upon our fans coming to the shows - without you there would be no reason for us to do what we do.  You are the music and we play the chords."

Question:
"Is there anything you want to add?"

Answer:
"Many thanks to you Jasmine and Minnesota Music.  You have been a huge help and have promoted ShakyJake in a big way, and we appreciate everything you have done for us - and the Minnesota music scene as a whole.  Remember, www.shakyjake.com, for all the shakyjake news and information. And we look forward to seeing all of your beautiful smiles at the next show.  Peace -"
