Ten Dark Years Interview

Here's an interview with Ten Dark Years.

Question:
"Names of the members of the band and the instruments they play?"

Answer:
"Jacob Nelson - Lead vocals/some guitar.
Steve Price - Guitar/vox.  Joey Tichenor - Guitar/Vox.  Jerad Reimers - Bass/Vox.  J - Drums/programming."

Question:
"How did the band get its name?"

Answer:
"
The name is derived from a poem by Claude McKay.. It speaks of the death of his mother and the "ten dark years" after. The bands founder (who recently left the band) actually found this poem while going through a rough time in his life, and it brought some hope to his life. We decided that it's a very unique name, and it fits our music so well, we wanted to keep it."

Question:
"How long have these people made up the band?  How long has the band been in existence if different?"

Answer:
"I'll give you the lowdown on Ten Dark Years. It was created about 3 years ago by Tony Ticknor as an acoustic duo. Then it went rock with an industrial tinge. The original lineup included Tony, J, and Steve. After the second version disbanded, it was reformed. That's when Jerad came in on bass. He's originally from Wyoming, and had moved to MN to become involved with the local scene here. In June of 2001, my last band, Travesty, disbanded. Tony offered me the spot of singing, and he moved from vocals to guitar. After Tony quit in April, we found Joey after he responded to an add, and here we are, and it seems we've finally fit 5 guys together that all want, believe in, and have the drive for the same thing."

Question:
"Album(s) the band has released and the year(s) they were released?"

Answer:
"First single released? We have one song on mp3.com that was released last November. We should have our E.P. mixed and finished by midsummer."

Question:
"Where can people find out more about your band?"

Answer:
"Our website at www.tendarkyears.net and on mp3.com at www.mp3.com/tendarkyears."

Question:
"What's your favorite place to perform and why?"

Answer:
"The Garage in Burnsville, hands down. All ages venues always rock harder than bars. The kids are there to see the music, and nothing else, which makes it easier to give a good show, because they get you into it on a different level. It's easier to connect with the audience then. The Quest is second on that list just because, well, it's the Quest.. "

Question:
"What's your favorite thing about entertaining?"

Answer:
"Two things: It allows me to vent my frustration and issues that I'm dealing with personally. The second part of that is when you connect with the audience while doing it.. Be it one person or 50. Basically, just that rush of being onstage and connecting with the audience. It's an incredible feeling."

Question:
"What's your least favorite thing about entertaining?"

Answer:
"Loading and unloading. That's it."

Question:
"What's your most memorable moment on stage?"

Answer:
"On stage? That's hard to say. But the most memorable show experience was when we opened a show at the Quest with Skywind last October. It happened to be on my birthday. By the end of the night, I was pretty pickled, and during Skywind's first song, they lit off their pyro. It just so happened it started the ceiling on fire. Just walking into the main room, loaded, with the ceiling of the Quest on fire, and it being my birthday, it was like one big birthday candle.. One of those moments you never really forget."

Question:
"What's your most memorable moment off stage, music related?"

Answer:
"It has nothing to do with Ten Dark Years, but probably the first time I saw Ozzy Osbourne at Ozzfest in 98'. The guy is the god of heavy metal.. That did it for me.. I knew what I wanted to be."

Question:
"Is there anything that your fans don't know about the band that you think they should?"

Answer:
"We're all really laid back, and very approachable. We're just enjoying every minute of this, and love talking to just about anyone. Plus, if you have a party after the show, invite us. Chances are, we will come!!"

Question:
"Is there anything that you want to say to your fans?"

Answer:
"We feel really lucky to have our music be embraced by so many people so quickly. We thank everyone that has supported us so far.. We are so gracious to all of you."

Question:
"Is there anything that you want to add?"

Answer:
"We have an amazing scene here in Minnesota. There's a lot of bands who have the potential to get signed and probably will... Everyone works so hard, and the fan base for the local scene is so killer, that I think everyone deserves the very best, and we are proud to be a part of such a killer group of bands that work together and help each other out. Plus, thanks to the bands in Mankato who we are always there for, and are always there for us: Diskord, Melisma, Killswitch, and Diesl.. Thanks.
Plus. We're all pretty insane.. So don't be scared if we seem weird!!"
